ReMix: Chrono Trigger 'Cosmic Whispers' - OverClocked ReMix
Our 15th and final flood mix comes from DrumUltimA, who sends us a jazzy solo vibraphone arrangement from a little game called Chrono Trigger, for the SNES. Perhaps you've heard of it. As a side note, if you've been keeping track, every single one of these fifteen flood mixes was from a different game system/platform!! Kudos again to Larry Oji for making that happen; mind = blown. ReMix: Kingdom Hearts 'Simply Be-groove-ed' - OverClocked ReMix
Here is our fusion jazz arrangement on two of Kingdom Hearts' most popular songs, "Simple & Clean" and "Dearly Beloved"! These two songs have already been widely covered before, but we decided to take a more "groovy" approach to spice it up. Here is a video of our performance: http://ift.tt/1x4l3Dk

Piano Covers
The piano doesn't get enough credit. I've found a treasure trove of piano players covering random rock songs that I never would have thought would make sense on the keyboard. There are many videos available on YouTube. If you wanted to learn to play the songs yourself, it's not a bad place to start. But here's just a small taste of my favorites.
DragonForce - Through the Fire and Flames - Piano 4 Hands Cover
I'd guess these guys names are Max and Leo? Everyone who's played Guitar Hero has likely heard this song. I think the piano version here is very loyal to the original.
And everyone who plays music loves free sheet music.
System Of A Down - Toxicity - Piano Cover
Vika Yermolyeva does a number of metal and classic rock song covers. Because they are all copyrighted works, they are available for free download on her site.

xkcd: Music Knowledge
This is a pretty old comic at this point, but I saw it again (thanks Eddie!) and wanted to share it here. Thankfully, I know more about music than the dude in this comic, but it's still pretty funny.
I sound pretty knowledgeable about music until people figure out that I'm just naming bands from Guitar Hero.
Admittedly, I had never heard of some of the bands in the game and I'm not sure they would have caught my attention otherwise. The games have collectively exposed some of these bands to a larger audience than they would have gotten on their own. My understanding is that for the first Guitar Hero game, many of the bands and labels were hesitant because they didn't know how successful the game would be. For the sequel, musicians were vying hard for inclusion. I don't know if this is true, but it sounds good enough for me.
Addendum: For those who are confused, the comic came out pre-Guitar Hero II, meaning that it also predates Guitar Hero: Metallica. So there you go.

Play Music Catch
Here is an interesting mix of music into the action of a video game. In Music Catch, the notes of the piano ballad cause little star shapes, triangles and little flowers to shoot out of a rotating plane line. The player controls a circle icon with the mouse and gathers the dots by rolling over them. The blue or green shapes are worth a small bit of points, but the yellow shapes are worth a lot and also increase a point modifier. As the modifier increases, the player's icon increases in size. Red shapes are to be avoided, as they halve the point modifier.
This sounds pretty basic and infantile, but the game is fun and challenging. It could be good for kids but there is something simple here for everyone. The whole game lasts about five minutes, so give it a try today. Play Music Catch at Reflexive Arcade.
My only mild complaint about this game is that there is really only one song. I think with more variety, the re-playability of this web game would be amazing. Still it's pretty cool as it is. Oh, and something surprising and fast happens for purple shapes but I'll let this be discovered rather than ruin it.

Super Mario Bros. Theme - London Symphony Orchestra [mp3]
I am not 100 percent positive that this song was actually performed or recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra, but the file name suggests that it is correct. This is a beautiful, full-sized orchestra performing a medley of songs from an even bigger NES hit, Super Mario Bros. and is a favorite of "old-schoolers" of all ages.

Final Fantasy IV - Lunarians [midi]
Incorrectly known in the USA as "Final Fantasy II," this was a gem of a game for the NES that brought in many fun elements of fantasy including flying boats, magic-wielding knights and a hero transformed from an agent of evil to a savior. Near the climax of the game, the rousing march soundtrack changed to a subdued piano ballad when our characters arrived on the moon to learn more about their destiny.
