John Williams is 90 Years Old

Well this came as a shock when I saw this post today. But I guess it's true.

John Williams conducted the National Symphony Orchestra in a memorable performance of his "Imperial March" from Star Wars during a gala to celebrate his 90th Birthday in 2023.

It makes me think of the future and the artists we will eventually lose. What an important contribution he made to the world. What a legend.

JJ Abrams Just Ethered Every Other Fan Event with a Free Star Wars Concert

“We do it for the fans” is practically a cliche at Comic-Con. It’s just what you’re supposed to say to people who slept outside to hear you give non-committal answers about your new movie or TV show. Tonight, JJ Abrams said it like he meant it. Then he backed it up by inviting 6,500 people to follow him out of Hall H to see a free concert of music from the Star Wars scores performed by the San Diego Symphony.

John Williams on Star Wars: The Force Awakens | Vanity Fair

Film composer John Williams has been nominated for an astonishing 49 Academy Awards. He’s won five. His second was for Jaws and his third was for the original Star Wars—and bingo! Right there you have arguably the two most recognizable scores in Hollywood history. Williams has since written the music for all the Star Wars sequels and prequels, along with nearly all of Steven Spielberg’s films, the first three Harry Potter pictures, and—a few more titles chosen not quite at random—Superman, The Witches of Eastwick, Home Alone, JFK, and The Book Thief.

J. J. Abrams Says John Williams Will Return To Score Episode VII! - Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

During a press conference for STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, (documented here at Trekmovie) J. J. Abrams was asked about John Williams' involvement in Episode VII, and Abrams was more candid than usual: Again, for Star Wars, it’s very early days, but I believe that, going forward, John Williams will be doing that film, because he was there long before I was. Fans will be happy for this news, young and old alike. John Williams is STAR WARS, and those themes resonate more over each year. Granted, Williams is also 81 years old, and so getting this squared away as soon as possible is to everyone's benefit. We all want John Williams to live forever.

Star Wars - Battle of The Heroes (video)

The following video is a great close-up of a performer at the piano playing a John William's masterpiece. But more importantly, the camera is focused on the player's hands. Though it is not clear if the musician learned this piece from published sheet music or is playing by ear, a determined fan could learn and approximately duplicate the performance on their own instrument.

My cousin playing the epic theme of the battle between Anakin and Obi-Wan ... this music is one of the many that we will provide to you by YouTube.
